Spotlight on Education Director Mary Orne
The
Marblehead Swampscott YMCA will continue to create a warm, welcoming
atmosphere where children feel like they belong at the new YMCA.
Education Director Mary Orne is excited about the many additional
benefits the Early Learning Center will bring to children. The Early
Learning Center will have rooms designed just for children—giving
them ownership of their space. Low windows will allow the children
to view the outside world, low sinks in the classroom, low bathrooms
designed for children, space for children's belongings, and
developmentally appropriate furniture are other amenities. Children
will build skills for future learning by experimenting and
interacting with developmentally appropriate toys, crafts and
materials.
The
Early Learning Center will have a home-like atmosphere and space for
parents to socialize and visit. The new YMCA will continue to bring
the children to participate in other YMCA programs such as
gymnastics and aquatics, but this can now be offered more regularly
and without the hassle of traveling to another location. The field
space and outdoor playground will enable the children to have
regularly scheduled outdoor playtime year round. The
children will have a playground designed just for them. The Early
Learning Center will have exclusive use of this playground during
its program hours. The playground will be a place of unstructured
playtime, while the field space will be for more structured
recreational activities. Children will learn eye-hand coordination
and how to play with others through the many sport games that can be
played on the additional field space.
